Privacy
What we keep about you if you sign in, why, and how to see it or delete it. You can read every page of the archive without an account.
Who we are
Southend United History is a volunteer archive, not the football club. The site's owner is responsible for the information on this page (the data controller). You can reach us through Contact us.
What we keep
Only if you sign in. We keep:
- your name — your first and last name, and the name the site shows you, which you can change;
- your email address, if the service you signed in with shares it;
- which way you signed in (Google or email), and an identifier for your account;
- the matches you say you went to and the programmes you say you own, with any note you write, and when you last changed each one;
- if you share your record, the name you choose for your shared page, which parts you chose to share, and a copy of those parts for your link to show.
Your notes and your list of matches are shown only to you, unless you share your record. Nobody else can see them, and that includes other readers.
Sharing your record
Sharing is off unless you turn it on, on My Southend United. When you turn it on, we make a link. Anyone who has the link can see, without signing in:
- the name you chose for your shared page;
- the matches you went to, if you chose to share them;
- the programmes you own, if you chose to share them;
- your notes on those matches, if you chose to share them.
They never see your email address, how you signed in, or anything else on this page. Notes can name other people, such as who you went with, so they have a choice of their own, and it starts off.
Once you give someone the link, we cannot know or control who they pass it to. To end it, press Stop sharing: the link stops working at once. New link makes a new link and stops the old one. Deleting your account stops it too.
To make the link work, we keep a copy of the parts you chose, in the same place as the rest of your record, and we update it when you change your record. The copy is not backed up, and we delete it when you stop sharing. Shared pages are not listed by search engines, and the part of the link that opens your record is not kept in our logs or sent to Google Analytics.
What your sign-in service learns
If you sign in with Google, that company learns that you signed in to this site, and when. It sends us your name, your email address if your account shares it, and an identifier. We do not ask for anything else, and we never post anything on your behalf.
Why we keep it
To show you your own record and, if you turn sharing on, to show the parts you chose to the people you give your link to. For nothing else. We do not use it for marketing, we do not give it to anyone you have not given your link to, we do not sell it, and we do not build a profile of you. We keep it because you asked us to keep a record for you.
What we send you
If you registered with an email address, we send you a sign-in code when you ask for one. We send nothing else, ever. If you signed in with Google, we send you nothing.
Where it is kept, and for how long
With Amazon Web Services, in Ireland. We keep it until you delete your account. We do not delete an account because it has not been used for a time, because it is still your record.
In your browser
Signing in stores your sign-in tokens in your browser's local storage on this site, not in a cookie. They keep you signed in for up to 180 days. Sign out removes them from that browser. They are needed for the service you asked for, so we do not ask your consent for them.
Separately, the site uses Google Analytics to count which pages are read. It loads only if you accept it, and your choice does not depend on whether you have an account.
Your rights
You can see, correct, download or delete what we keep about you. On My Southend United, while you are signed in:
- Download my data gives you everything we keep, as a file;
- you can change the name the site shows you;
- Stop sharing ends your shared link at once;
- Delete my account deletes everything.
For anything else, contact us. If you are not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
How to delete your data
- Sign in the way you usually do.
- Go to My Southend United.
- Click Delete my account, then Delete everything.
That deletes your list of matches, your programmes and your notes, and your shared record if you have one, and then your account. It happens at once and cannot be undone.
If you cannot sign in any more, contact us and tell us which way you signed in and the email address on that account. We delete your data within 30 days and tell you when it is done.
Changes to this page
If we change what we keep or why, we change this page first.
